The story of Boyd Norton,
Changing Lenses,

the film to inspire creative storytellers

Boyd is a former nuclear physicist who experienced a personal inflection point in the 1960’s that altered the course of his life, leading him to become a world class nature photographer, author, and conservationist.

His stunning photography and passionate storytelling have contributed to the preservation of millions of acres of wilderness, the designation of a World Heritage site, and the creation of several non-profit advocacy organizations. Along the way, Boyd authored or co-authored 18 books, innumerable magazine articles, and inspired thousands of photographers through his workshops and presentations throughout the world.

photography & storytelling

By telling the story of Boyd's personal inflection point and how he has used photography and storytelling to make a real difference in our world, we hope to inspire and support creative storytellers young and old, to combine their passion for storytelling and for preserving our natural world.

we need your help

Boyd Norton has led an amazing life and has an amazing story to tell, one that will inspire a new generation to use their creative passion to change the world. But we need your help to get that story out. A small team of passionate, creative, environmentally minded professionals has started production on the film and have completed initial interviews with Boyd and his wife and partner Barbara.

Your financial support will help us cover the filming and post-production costs for a short documentary film that tells how Boyd's inflection point changed his life trajectory from a nuclear physicist studying reactor safety for the Atomic Energy Commission to a freelance photographer and writer documenting and protecting the world’s last wild places.

After more than 55 years working to save the world, one photograph at a time, Boyd has a wealth of experience turning art into environmental activism. His story is engaging and inspiring, and one – we think you'll agree – the world needs to hear.

We believe in creative expression, in the art and power of storytelling, and in the creative process. They are key to creating inflection points. And right now, more than ever before, we humans need positive and productive inflection points if we are to continue surviving and thriving on this planet.

Inflection points are the convergence of events, circumstances and actions that result in dramatic, profound change. They can alter the course of our personal lives. At a macro level, inflection points change the course of history.

The origin of the term comes from mathematics. In differential calculus and differential geometry, an inflection point is the point on a curve at which the function of a line changes from being concave up to concave down or vice versa.

This definition can be useful in exploring the dynamics of change. One can look at inflection points as the convergence of opposing forces. Yin and Yang. Right brain and left brain. Improvisation and structure. Passion and pragmatism. Conformity and rebellion. Conservative and liberal. Tradition and innovation. Humanity and the natural world.

The convergence of these forces can release a tremendous amount of energy, and with it, the potential for dramatic change is born.

By sharing the stories of creative and passionate storytellers, we hope to inspire and support future storytellers enabling them to create the inflection points that will be needed for humanity to thrive on earth.
